Phatt1500

250MW / 1500MWh - Western Australia

The Mimegarra Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a 250 MW/ 1500 MWh facility designed to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration in the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). Once operational, it will provide critical capacity during peak demand periods, enable greater uptake of wind and solar generation, and deliver fast frequency response services. The project is currently in the development phase, with commissioning expected in 2030.

Location

The Phatt project site has been strategically selected for its advantageous geography and immediate access to existing electrical infrastructure. Located north of Perth near Regans Ford, the site is positioned close to Western Power’s 330kV transmission network, ensuring strong grid connectivity with minimal development complexity.

Importantly, the site is situated outside the designated Clean Energy Link (CEL) build area. This delivers a key advantage by avoiding the delays and uncertainties associated with future government-led works, allowing the project to proceed on more efficient timeframes.

Direct access to Western Power’s robust 330kV network enables a straightforward and cost-effective connection without the need for additional easements.

This combination of strategic location, reliable grid access, and streamlined development pathways significantly strengthens the Phatt project’s ability to deliver dependable renewable energy to the grid while supporting future scalability in line with Western Australia’s clean energy transition.
